Ethno village-museum Ljubačke doline, with the aim of cultivating tradition, preservation of customs and preservation of cultural heritage, sends a group of women on the Zmijanje embroidery upskilling, organized by the Museum of the Republika Srpska and Ethno Gallery “Duga”.
Namely, the Zmijanje embroidery has been included on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Zmijanje embroidery is not only the heritage of the village Zmijanja, the homeland of Petar Kocic, but has also recently become a part of the world’s cultural heritage.
The purpose of the UNESCO list is to raise awareness about the preservation of cultural heritage.
Traditionally, the Zmijanje embroidery is used to decorate female costumes, including wedding dresses, scarves, garments and bed linen. The specificity of this embroidery is reflected in the fact that it is richly ornamented, and created using special weaving techniques, as well as painted in a unique shade of sdark blue. Each motif has its own meaning such as bringing happiness to the family, good health, healthy offspring, etc…
